2006 Arizona junior and Collegiate archery year in review and a look ahead to 2007

 

Arizona Archery has grown and become better and better year after year and 2006 was no different.

 

2006 Arizona Junior and Collegiate Archery, year in review:

  • Mesa Targeteers JOAD conducts twice a week sessions in Mesa and Chandler. 

  • Precision Shooters JOAD at PSE, Tucson conducts weekly sessions.

  • Desert Destroyers JOAD Tucson, best years are still to come.

  • Straight N Arrow JOAD, Phoenix conducts Friday evening sessions.

  • Straight N Arrow – North JOAD, at Ben Avery meets on Saturday mornings.

  • Corner Kids Arizona JOAD, at Corner Archery conducts Saturday morning sessions.

  • The Papago FITA Archers JOAD begins a new era,  Open sessions on Saturday, JOAD training during the week.

  • That’s eight active JOAD club sites across Arizona.

 

Pat and Amy Monahan take on 2006 Arizona JOAD Coordinator duties and oversees a host of activities including fund raising, Vegas and Outdoor AZ JOAD Team championships.

 

Sun Devil Archers leader, Kari Granville, is elected to USA College Archery Program Chairperson.

Steven Weaver, Embry Riddle Golden Eagle Archery Club selected as club president.

Ali Wood founds the Bowcats Archery Club at the U of A.

Dine' College continues to involve the most collegiate archers in Arizona.

 

Denise Raum, Statewide Archery and Bow Hunting Coordinator, AZ Game and Fish Department, arrived in the summer and quickly began working on developing all aspects of archery including youth.

2006 Month by Month


 

 

January

  • Indoor season features the AZ JOAD Indoor and ASAA Indoor Championships in Prescott at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

  • Papago FITA Archers launch their new website.

February

  • Arizonan, Mark Penaz named as 2005 USA Archery National Coach of the Year.

  • Second annual Arizona JOAD Vegas Team Show Down takes place.

March

  • Arizona JOAD and Collegiate compete in USA Archery Indoor Nationals, winning several categories.

  • Straight N Arrow JOAD North at Ben Avery and Corner Archery JOAD plan for the future.

April

  • Arizona State Outdoor Championship and Arizona Cup International offer JOAD and Collegiate a chance to compete with international archers.

  • Arizona JOAD Coordinator Pat Monahan host archery outreach at Long Bow Golf Course.

May

  • Arizona JOAD Outdoor Championship includes the second annual Arizona JOAD Team Championship.

  • Four Arizona Collegiate Archery Clubs compete in the US Intercollegiate Archery Championship (USIACs)

  • Three Arizonans named to USA Archery Collegiate All American

    • Ali Wood, UofA Bowcats

    • Ted Harden, Sun Devil Archery at ASU

    • Lindsay Pian, Sun Devil Archery at ASU

June

  • Level 1-2 Archery Instructor Certification offered.

  • Payson Shoot tradition continues.

  • JOAD National Championship takes place in Ohio, Arizona JOADs all do well and bring back multiple medals!

  • Arizona Collegiate Archer, Lindsay Pian, takes part in World University Games in Slovakia

July

  • South East Valley Archery Community show support of Chandler archery range.

August

  • USA National Target Championship, Arizonan compete in a World Ranking Tournament.

  • Maggie Huff and Brady Ellison won their Jr National Divisions.

  • Maggie went on to the Medal matches of the US Open and Brady won the Gold Medal that the US Open!

  • USA Jr World Team Trials, Colorado Springs;  Two Arizona JOADs, Maggie Huff and Brady Ellison make the US Jr World Team team.

September

  • Two Arizonans named to USA Archery Jr Dream Team, Maggie Huff and Tony Don.

  • Two Arizona JOAD selected to be full time resident archers at the Chula Vista OTC under the supervision of the USA Archery National Coach.

October

  • Arizona Duel in the Desert Trials selects the 2006 AZ Duel Team.

  • Level 1-2 Archery Instructor Certification offered.

  • Maggie Huff and Brady Ellison compete in Mexico at the Jr World Team championship.

  • AZ Game and Fish administration of the National Archery in the Schools gets a boost by focusing on instructor education.

November

  • Duel in the Desert hosted by the ASAA in AZ, AZ women’s team and Overall team win!

  • Maku Wood wins Bob Hope Scholarship and marches in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

  • AZ JOAD Chula Vista Resident archers compete in Rio De Janeiro Brazil at the Pan AM Championships.

December

  • 4th Annual Iron Archer gives first timers and veterans valuable indoor tourney experience.

  • Arizonans prepare for the World Indoor Team Trials and the 2007 championship season.


2007 Look ahead for Arizona Juniors and Collegiate


 

January 2007

  • The US Indoor World Team Trials takes place in Texas.  Senior and Juniors have a change to make the US World Indoor Championship team that will compete in Turkey, Self Funded.

  • The Arizona JOAD Indoor Championship and the ASAA Indoor Championship will both take place over a three days in Prescott at the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

February 2007

  • Vegas World Archery Festival and AZ JOAD Vegas Team Showdown

  • Rio Rancho offers both the JOAD Indoor Championships and the National Indoor Championships

March 2007

  • Grand Canyon State Game will include a special NASP event.

  • ASAA Outdoor Championships

  • Ben Avery to host the Arizona NASP championship

April 2007

  • Arizona Cup, JOADs that can shoot senior distance have a chance to compete in a world Ranking Tournament in our own backyard.

  • AZ JOAD Outdoor will be hosted by Papago FITA Archers.

  • US Recurve Outdoor World Team Trials for JOAD that can shoot the Senior Distances, Chula Vista OTC.

  • JOADs can visit ASU and watch the Western Collegiate Championships

May 2007

  • US Compound Outdoor World Team Trials for JOAD that can shoot the Senior Distances, Chula Vista OTC.

  • US Intercollegiate Archery Championship to take place in Southern Illinois.

  • ASAA Field Championship

June 2007

  • JOAD National is in the West Region at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center with make it “the year” for Arizona JOADs to take part.

  • Chula Vista is an 6 hour drive from central AZ.

July/August

  • National Target Championship, Colorado Spring, a full week of championship competition.

  • Colorado Springs is a twelve hour drive from central AZ.

September 2007

  • Potential First Phase-Olympic Trials for the 2008 team, a chance for AZ JOADs and Collegiate to take part at an all 70 meters tournament.

October 2007

  • Potential First Phase-Olympic Trials for the 2008 team, a chance for AZ JOADs and Collegiate to take part at an all 70 meters tournament.

  • AZ Duel in the Desert Trials, the AZ team will travel Long Beach CA to compete on their LA Olympic Field in 2007. Location to be determined.

November/December 2007

  • Back to the Indoor season for many.
