2003 Las Vegas world archery festival
AZJOAD Perspective February 21-23, 2003 Riviera Casino Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada Twelve Arizona youth archers
competed in at the 2003 NFAA World Archery Festival / Las Vegas Shoot
including three members of Jr. USAT.
Arizona JOAD’s were well represented and competed in a 300 round on
Friday and another 300 round on Saturday.
The Vegas NFAA shoot varies slightly from the NAA with different age
categories, target size, with the most notable difference being that the
compound archers score the outer ten and the Recurve youth archers shoot on
60 cm faces. Many drove from Tucson (7 ½
hours) or Phoenix (5 ½ hours) on Thursday.
Dine College brought nine from their college team archers to the
event. In addition to youth
shooting on Friday and Saturday, the archers were treated to the archery
manufacturers and suppliers show where some good deals could be found along
with information gathering at the NAA, NFAA and several archery magazine
booths. Other fun activities included
a 3D shoot held in the “basement”, a hospitality party on Saturday and
video-taping where the archer left with a VHS tape of a super slow motion
view of their release, arrow flight, bow hand etc. The youth awards ceremony
was held at mid-day Saturday where eight Arizona youth’s won medals. Each and every youth deserves a “job well
done” for competing in the largest indoor archery tournament in the
world! Arizona

Place With the youth tournament over on Saturday, most Arizona families were able to enjoy the Vegas strip Saturday night and then travel back to Arizona on Sunday. One of
the AZJOAD, Lindsay Pian, also competed in the adult division all three days
and won third place in the women’s championship recurve division. The
indoor season comes to a close for Arizona with most traveling to the
National Regional Indoor Championship in Rio Rancho, NM. We hope all returned home safely and hope
to see you at the next practice and tournament. For a
