USA Archery, Andrew Mateo, USA Archery 2014 World Archery Youth Championship Team, Wuxi, China

"Competing in the World Archery Youth Championships was a blast. I definitely had a lot of fun. I’ve gotten closer to the team and made a lot of friends, teammates and fellow competitors. I’ve learned a lot while on my trip in China and created memories that will always be remembered.

I gradually shot better as the tournament progressed, shaking off the pressure and time change. I didn’t finish as well as I expected but there is always next time. As a team, we shot really well even though we didn’t make it to the medal matches. My favorite match that we shot was our match against South Korea. They were our first match as we started in the 1/8 round. It was a really tight match and we came out victorious by one point. It was very emotional for us and we were proud of our performance. We shot really well our next match against Turkey. We were just 3 points shy of the world record but we still loss in the shoot off. Even though we were eliminated, we were very satisfied of how we shot as a team.

After this lifetime opportunity, I have learned so much.  One thing that I learned is how different international competitions are compared to national tournaments. The level of performance in the World Games to win a medal is much higher than a tournament in the United States. Competing in this tournament was the best way to finish up my last year as a Cadet.  With this, I plan to train even harder for my next international event, knowing what I’m up against as a junior.

I especially want to thank my sponsors Doinker, Easton, Hoyt, AAE, as well as USA Archery Arizona for helping me fund my trip to the 2013 Youth World Championships in Wuxi, China.

Finally, thank you to USA Archery for the opportunity to compete in China."

- Andrew Mateo

USA Archer, Danielle Reynolds, at the World Archery Youth Championships,

Wuxi, China, 13-20, October, 2013.

Archery Arizona Scholar award winner Danielle Reynolds just returned from China where she competed on the 2013 World Archery Youth Championship USA Archery Team:

"The 2013 World Archery Youth Championships was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I received a gold medal for team rounds, and ranked 4th individually. During the trip I learned from my mistakes, learned from my achievements, and learned that I can't  wait to compete in another international tournament!

I went into the tournament being one of the more inexperienced and unknown archers on the trip. Now, after experiencing what it is like to shoot in the finals for both team and individual, I feel like I am on the same level as everyone else. Bonds were formed with teammates, coaches, and fellow archers that can never be broken, and we have stories that will never be forgotten. The USA team quickly got over a couple bumps in the road, and came together as a team to come home with a decent amount of medals and two world records.

I am so thankful for everyone who has supported me, and had faith in me, along the way. I may not have ranked as well as I was hoping for, but I shot strong and had the time of my life.

Special thanks to my sponsors; Easton, Doinker, AAE, Trophy Taker, BCY, Sure-Loc, SKB, Carter, Ross Outdoors and USA Archery Arizona.” - Danielle Reynolds

For USA Archery Arizona, “USAA AZ strives to support target archers and Arizonans reach for their archery dream ranging from the opportunity to learn, train and compete together, and have fun every step of the way!”
