Wow, A wonderful Iron Archer tournament saw the coming of age of USA Archery Arizona's target archery development.  Archers came from Brazil and California to join Arizonans in competition.  84 took part in the in the two 18M x 600 qualification sessions on Saturday (down from the full registration of 96 due to last minute cancelations and day of no shows).

The top 48 moved on to Sunday's Round Robin Matches of 8 flights of 6 archers each .  The point spread between top and bottom archers within a flight ranged from only 2 points to 12 points so all flights were very competitive with evenly matched competitors.

Each match was sponsored.

Match winning archers took home dollars thanks to the Match Sponsors:

  • Match 1 Hawkeye Construction $2 per match x 24 = $48 Total

  • Match 2 Desert Sky Archers $2 per match x 24 = $48 Total

  • Match 3 Corner Archery $2 per match x 24 = $48 Total

  • March 4 Paseo Vista Archery Club $2 per match x 24 = $48 Total

  • Match 5 Susan and Dennis Swartzfager $3 per match x 24 = $72 Total

On behalf of the archers, THANK YOU!

At the day's end, the 8 new Iron Archers came from clubs and towns across the valley

  • 2 from Arizona Archery Club

  • 2 from Corner Archery

  • 2 from Pineapple Archery

  • 1 from Paseo Vista Archery Club

  • 1 from San Tan Valley

Thank you to the judges and the volunteer score runners!  Special thanks to Desert Sky Archers.  We could not have executed the tournament without the clubs hard work!

Lessons:

  • Youth are encouraged to take part, however archers should be able fill out a score card and communicate with other archers.

  • Need food vendor.

  • Find a way to provide separate compound (open cumulative score) and recurve (classic sets) Iron Archer round robin matches.

  • To speed up, consider Iron Archer tied match total play off via (1) three arrow set/end score, if still tied, then one arrow shoot off.
