ASAA Judges Seminar

Kari Granville (Sun Devil), Fray Grey (Dine'), Gary Yamaguchi (JOAD parent), Jon Low (Coach/Archer) and Michael Braunstein (Archer) took part in a one day beginner judges seminar taught by Coparco Continental Judge, Bob Pian.

 

Topics included:

  • Philosophy, goals, purpose

  • Certification levels, USA Archery Judges Application

  • Rules, Bylaws, Interpretation, Judges Guidebook

  • Tools and preparation

  • Tournament staff, assignments

  • Tournament oversight

  • Masters, Seniors and JOAD Distances and ages

  • Field/range preparation, layout

  • Equipment inspection

  • DOS instructions and process

  • Basic judging techniques

  • Indoor and Outdoor shooting errors scoring

  • Qualification rounds

  • Tie breaking

  • Elimination rounds

  • Team Rounds

The seminar participants received a copy of the FITA Judges guidebook, and a series of resource handouts from www.archery.org, www.usarchery.org and www.azjoad.com.

 

After lunch, FITA Judges Newsletter #66 testing questions and answers as well as case studies were discussed and evaluated.

 

Look for these new judges as they officiate tournaments and help teach others about FITA rules.

 

Clubs are encouraged to invite veteran judges to present beginner judge seminars.

Beginner judge seminars can be offered whenever a group of interested individuals can be assembled.

Note that one year of NAA/USA Archery membership are required before joining the judging ranks.

Judging can lead to an Olympic Archery Judge assignment!
