BASF Indoor Range Improvements and Fee Update:
The BASF indoor archery range features
18 and 25 meters distances, space for 26 world archery shooting
positions, air-conditioning and bright lighting. Recently
indoor restrooms have been added to the facility. The range
has ten BASF provided target matts. Additional targets, sound
systems, timers and other equipment can provide by user groups or
the ASAA.
In the past event hosts paid $125 for a
single day port a let rental. Rental of two port a lets for
two days with service is about $300. A hand wash station is an
additional cost. Beginning January 2012, the facility
rental is $75 for a five hour half day and $150 for a full day.
(BASF Letter)
The per archer per day range use fee remains the same.
“Parents are much more willing to
bring their children to archery programs that have air conditioning,
comfortable seating and indoor plumbing. Indoor plumbing was the
final hurdle for the BASF indoor facility to host top flight events.
Spectators, family, friends as well as archers and staff will also
appreciate the improvements” Bob Pian, Arizona State Archery
Association.
All are welcome to reserve to use the
range for all target archery program needs. Contact the Ben
Avery Shooting Facility to register as a BASF user group or
collaborate with an existing BASF target archery user group such as
Desert Sky Archers and the Arizona JOAD Association.

Longbow Golf invited the Arizona JOAD
Clubs community to conduct a "Give Archery a Try” event for the AJGA
golfers, a collaboration that began in 2003 and and has been an
ongoing tradition that is a fun event for all.
2003 story:
http://www.azjoad.com/azjoad2003/2003_LongbowGolf.htm
2004 story:
http://www.azjoad.com/2004azjoad/2004_azjoad_longbow_golf.htm
This year Paseo Vista Archery Club
JOADs (Rachel, Arde, Yasmin, Danielle) and club parents and
supporters (Saaid, David, Bob) were organized by Paseo parent and
Arizona JOAD Co-Coordinator Sandra Reynolds.
Four target buttresses, stands, wind
flags, new 122 target faces, a dozen light bows, bow stands, arrows
and ground quivers were transported via three volunteer utility
vehicles. Equipment set up included targets at 5 to 10
meters on the east side of the Longbow driving range . The
volunteers were dressed smartly in Paseo Vista and archery polo
shirts in keeping with the equally sharply dressed Junior
golfers. It’s great to have the youth archers “teach” the
Junior golfers. There was a steady flow of golfers wanting to
give archery a try.
The process was as follows:
Golfer were given an arm guard and a
bow and taken to the shooting line and shown how to shoot.
Golfer shot 6 to 12 arrows.
The “staff” retrieved the arrows.
The event is a highlight of the AJGA
tournament tour and is a great experience and fund raiser for the
Arizona JOAD community.
Schedule:
Good Friday, the Heather Farr Classic
typically takes place over Easter weekend.
3:30 Pick up equipment at PVAC
4:15 Set up at Longbow Golf
5:00 Give archery a try event begins
7:15 Event concludes
7:30 Return to PVAC
8:00 Equipment put away at PVAC. |
