2009 Arizona State JOAD Indoor Championship will be held on Saturday, January 10th at Precision High School in Phoenix, AZ.

The Papago FITA Archers are inviting all JOAD Archers to participate in the Championship. Collegiate, Senior and Master division archers are also welcome if space is available.

Congratulate ASAA World Team Members! 

Come celebrate and welcome home our Arizona 2008 USA Archery World Team Archers.

Who:  Anyone interested in archery, the Arizona target archery community.

What: Come celebrate and welcome home our AZ USAA World Team Archers. Come meet, greet, question, listen, learn and celebrate.

Where:  Corner Archery 5008 W Northern Ave #8, Glendale AZ 85301

When: Friday, October 24, 2008 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

How:  Drop by and visit.  USAA Paralympian Eric Bennett and USAA World Field Team member, Kari Granville have already confirmed their attendance. Others are looking to take part in person or via “Skype”.  Former world team members are encouraged to attend.

Why:  In recognition of the hard work and skill of our Arizona target archers.  Find out what it’s like to compete internationally. Visit with friends.

ASAA NEEDS YOUR HELP

 

Session 1

"What needs to be done?"Planning Session and Initial Clean-up

September 20th, 8:00am - 11:00am

Session 2 - Inventory and Fix up

September 27 and 28 from 8 AM To 3 PM

Volunteers needed for both sessions.

 

Tasks:

  • Inventory target faces, targets matts, equipment and supplies

  • Clean up field

  • Dispose of surplus

  • Repair target stands (tighten and touch up paint)

  • Bring gloves and tools.

Lunch and beverages provided by the ASAA.

The National Parks and Recreation Association has a launched a grant program to fund the establishment of ASAP in local communities.

Let your local parks and recreation department know of this wonderful opportunity.

Wanted:  Archery Instructor / Coach for new target archery club at Scottsdale Preparatory Academy for 6th-9th graders.

Once a week session is anticipated.  Instructor/Coach needs to be certified. A background check will be required.

This is a paid position and is available starting Fall Semester 2008.

JOAD Outdoor Nationals - The Story and Photos

The National Alliance for the Development of Archery (NADA) has partnered with the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) creating start-up grants funded by the Easton Sports Development Foundation II.

The goal is to expand archery as a community activity in recreation departments.

A dream come true!

A dream has come true for a former Arizona JOAD, Brady Ellison.

Brady won the Finals of 2008 Olympic Trials at the Ben Avery FITA range, May 1-4, 2008.  By doing so, he is the #1 nominee to the USAA Archery Olympic Team that will compete in Beijing China in August 2008.

Whoohoo!

A second former Arizona JOAD came close to joining Ellison.

Lindsay Pian finished in fourth place in the Olympic Trials process.

She will now return to Arizona State University.

Former JOAD and now Arizona State University student, Dakota Sinclair finished in the top 10 in the Olympic Trials process.

Sinclair will compete in the US Intercollegiate Archery Championship in New Jersey

USIACs selects the College National Champion and College All Americans.

USA Archery  -  3rd Nomination  Olympic Trials Finals

May 1 - 4, 2008 at the Ben Avery FITA Range - Phoenix, AZ

The top 8 men and 8 women USA Archery Olympic Team candidates will compete Thursday thru Sunday.  The competition determines who will be nominated to the USA Men’s team and the USA Women’s team.

Admission is free to the Ben Avery Shooting Facility FITA Archery range, 1.6 miles east of I-17 on the Carefree Highway (State Route 74).

Arizona is represented by Brady Ellison (Glendale) and Lindsay Pian (Scottsdale).

The Papago FITA Archers Club is hosting a 1/2 FITA on Saturday, May 17th.

This tournament will be a fundraiser for Paralympian Eric Bennett.  All entry fees will go to Eric.

Eric Bennett is on the U.S, Paralympic Team and is going to Beijing, China for the Paralympic Games held after the Beijing Olympics. Please join us for a day of Archery and to help Eric. Go to www.compete-at.com/papago and click on the PFA1/2 FITA link to register.

On-line Registration for the 2008 Arizona State JOAD Outdoor Championship is now available.

JOAD Divisions are determined by how old you will be this year, not by how old you will be on the tournament date. If you have questions please email Mike Cullumber at mcullumber@papagoarchery.com .

Final Results for 2008 ASAA Indoor Championship

The ASAA Outdoor Championship will be held at BASF on

March 29 - 30, 2008. 

Sun Devil Archery and Black Canyon Archers are co-hosting the tourney.   Guests are welcome and there will be an Open OR event. 

Please note that this will be a busy weekend at Ben Avery as the Outdoor EXPO will be going on. Plan on a few extra minutes of travel time to negotiate the traffic and and any traffic controls.

We will have a great opportunity to showcase target FITA style archery.

The ASAA Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, March 29 after scoring.

New Arizona State JOAD Co-Coordinators Announced

The Arizona State Archery Association is pleased to announce that

Linda and Steve Yturralde are the new 2008 AZ JOAD Co-Coordinators.  Val Carlisle and Heather Collins Brunelle will assist them as immediate past co coordinator advisors.

The Yturralde’s family experience with JOAD is with the Mesa Targeteers and Papago FITA Archers.

Linda and Steve have accompanied Kyle Pelton to the World Archery Festival, JOAD National Championship and the AZ JOAD Team Showdown numerous times. The family has also taken part in many local tournaments and Arizona State Championships.

Steve is a Level 2 certified instructor and is a USAA judge.

Linda is a teacher at Notre Dame Preparatory High School and looks forward to keeping things on track. 

One of their first tasks is to oversee the 2008 AZ JOAD Team Vegas Showdown.

Fantastic BASF FITA Range News!

  • Phoenix Tent and Awning has been awarded the contract to construct permanent canopies at Ben Avery FITA range.

  • Thank you Arizona Game and Fish Department!

Work is to begin right away to meet the end of February 2008 deadline for completion of new canopy construction.

  •  “We” need to quickly remove the old canopy frames so construction can begin.

  • Volunteers are needed on Saturday January 12, 2008 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and take apart and remove the old frames.

  • Bring gloves, step ladders, pliers, hammers and a pick to remove the stakes.

  • A trailer would be great, too.  Feel free to invite others.

The Papago FITA Archers have two tournaments coming up in January 2008.

The first is a FITA Field on January 5th & 6th at Usery Mountain Park. Sunday the 6th is a "First Time Field Shoot" for those who want to try FITA Field.

The second tournament is on January 12th. This is a FITA Indoor format that will be held outside at the Papago Archery Range.

Note that all PFA Tournaments (with the exception of Senior Olympics) welcomes JOAD and Collegiate archers.  JOAD categories are always offered.  Collegiate are welcome to take part in the senior age division.
