Town of Buckeye Recreation Division is offering

new Archery Programs

Free Archery Clinic!

The Town of Buckeye Recreation Division will be hosting a free archery clinic from 9am to 10:30am, Saturday, January 9th, at Earl Edgar Recreational Facility on Miller Road and Beloat.

The clinic is designed to teach fundamental archery skills such as equipment review, basic shooting techniques and safety and is open to participants’ ages 8 to 17 years.  All archery equipment will be provided for the clinic and no experience is necessary.  The clinic will be led by a Level 2 National Field Archery Association Instructor.

Space is limited to the first 24 participants completing registration by January 6th at the Dr. Saide Recreation Center, 1003 E. Eason Ave.

Youth Archery Program!

Looking to take your skills to the next level, registrations are also being accepted for the upcoming Youth Archery Program starting every Saturday on January 30th and running through March 6th.

Two sessions are offered and space is limited to the first 24 participants per session completing the registration by January 22nd at the Dr. Saide Recreation Center.  Registration fee for the program is $50.00 for Residents and $60.00 for Non-Residents and includes all equipment, t-shirt, and participation award.

Dec. 7, 2009   A New Archery Club has been formed.

The new Paseo Vista Archery Club, Inc. is a non-profit Adult/JOAD Target Archery Club which will be practicing and hosting events at the new Paseo Vista Recreation Area in Chandler, AZ. The park and Archery range are located on the northwest corner of McQueen Rd and Ocotillo Rd in Chandler.

The Park and archery range will be open around the last week of December. The club will hold beginners and intermediate archery lessons through the City of Chandler and will be forming a high performance archery team led by USAA Regional Coach Gary Yamaguchi and USAA Community Coach Mike Cullumber.

Two separate seminars are planned:

  • Judge's Seminar: Sunday January 10

    Seminar is for all judges and officials including those that would like to become judges and those that would like a procedures and rules update. Flyer

  • Rules Update: Monday evening January 11

    Presentation focuses on the new 2010 FITA procedures and rules. Flyer

Sign up early, space is limited, a must for anyone that would like to host or support tournament target archers.

Intermediate Instructors Certification Course

will be held on January 16 & 17at Precision High School.

The Class will be taught by Ed Votruba and Mike Cullumber. This class is for individuals who have little or no Archery experience and are looking to start a new Archery Club or will be working in a more established Archery Program. All are encouraged to take part in this class. Those in need of financial support are invited to submit a funding request to the Arizona State Archery Association (ASAA). Grants are available to those who can volunteer at a JOAD/Collegiate/Family Archery Club in Arizona at least twice a month. Grants are also available for those who wish to start and run a new JOAD/Collegiate/Family Archery Club in Arizona. All individuals that are interested in participating in an ASAA grant program will be required to contact the ASAA in writing with personal information and write a brief statement on how the Target Archery Community in Arizona will benefit from the grant.

Each applicant will be required to pay for the class in advance and return to the ASAA proof of completion from the class instructors. Each application will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the ASAA Grant Review Committee. You may apply for the grant up to two weeks after the class has ended.

BASF Multi-Purpose Indoor Range “Sneak Peek” and

JOAD Club Organizational Meeting

Who:

All that are interested in the Ben Avery Indoor Archery Range and all that are interested in establishing a JOAD program and/or JOAD/Adult club at Ben Avery.

What:

BASF Multi Purpose Indoor Range improvement tour and JOAD Club Organizational Meeting

Where: 

4044 W Black Canyon Blvd, Phoenix, AZ  85086. 

Enter via the main entrance drive, just west of the I-17 Freeway.  The range is a part of the Airgun/Airpistol range to the east of the “Small Bore Range”.  It is the first large metal building on the right side of the main entrance drive.

How: 

Come and have a look for free (Call 602-228-0465 for the gate code if the electric gate is closed.)  Take part in the discussion and ideas to start a JOAD program and Club.  Bring a chair and a note pad.  Email azjoad@cox.net  with any questions or comments or just to let us know if you can make it. 

Why: 

When fully outfitted, the range will be the largest dedicated indoor archery range in AZ with space for 12 FITA targets for 24 spacious shooting positions.  The building can accommodate both 18 and 25 meter distances and will be ideal for Vegas style events, club shoots, and championships.  Certified Instructors and Coaches, archer and parent/family member participation is encouraged.   Club members are needed to help establish and run programs and shooting opportunities.  Note that youths shoot for free at BASF.

The 2009 Duel in the Desert Trials and the Duel in the Desert are right around the corner.

The AZ Duel Trials is scheduled to take place on October 3 - 4.  Location pending. The AZ Trials select the 24 archer AZ Duel Team that will compete against CA.

The Duel in the Desert is scheduled for October 31 - November 1 in Long Beach, CA.  This is a different date than the posted calendar.

Both tourneys are open tournaments for those not competing in the AZ Trials or Duel itself and are welcome to shoot. Updates to follow as they become available.

THANKS to Diamondbacks pitcher #35 Clay Zavada, our JOAD Kidz have received 4 tickets to a Diamondbacks game followed by the Montgomery Gentry concert to use as a fund raising raffle.

Game is Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009 1pm, seats are in Section 124,

Row 39, Chairs 1-4. Value of these is $200

Raffle tickets are available only at Corner Archery or from one of our JOAD Kidz for $10 each or 3 @ $25. Drawing will be held Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 7:30pm.

All the money raised will be used for our JOAD Kidz to attend the Vegas shoot or other tournaments that we participate as a club.

An Intermediate Instructors Course (old Level II) will be held on

August 15 & 16 at Precision High School, Phoenix, AZ.

Ed Votruba and Mike Cullumber will be the Instructors. Class fee is $150.00. There is limited space available for this class. This class is for individuals with little or no archery experience who wish to work with or establish an archery program i.e. JOAD, ASAP, Parks/Recreation or College Archery Program (CAP).

Ben Avery Shooting Faculty, FITA Archery Range Use and Arizona State Archery Association Support:

  1. The BASF has instituted a BASF FITA range user registration program See link

  2. As a reminder, BASF FITA range users, please move target stands to the back wall after use.  (Note that BASF will be staking down target stands for league use, and is an exception to the back wall storage policy)

  3. BASF FITA range is an ideal location for a JOAD club.  If you are interested in volunteering at a JOAD Club including becoming Intermediate Level Archery Instructor certified, contact the ASAA, Bob Pian at azjoad@cox.net

  4. Help wanted:  ASAA equipment requires maintenance (ie, target center replacement, wagon tire tube flat repair, inventory, stand repair, stand painting, etc.)  Contact the ASAA, Bob Pian at azjoad@cox.net to volunteer to help.

"The 2009 Arizona State JOAD Outdoor Championship was help on Saturday and Sunday, April 18 & 19 at the Papago Park Archery Range.

The weather was great with 27 JOAD Archers shooting. Many Archers were participating in their first Archery Tournament. Many state records were broken at the tournament. Go to http://www.azjoad.com/main/azjoad_outdoor_records.pdf .

The tournament was hosted by the Papago FITA Archers club and had help from many of the archer's parents. Special thanks to Judges Gary Yamaguchi, Mike Cullumber, DOS Heather Collins-Brunnelle and check-in, registration and all around archer herder Angi Lopez, who without Angi, Tournament Director Mike Cullumber would be lost."

2009 AAE Arizona Cup - a FITA World Ranking Tournament and Senior USAT qualifying tournament

The AAE Arizona Cup, April 8 - 12, Ben Avery Shooting Facility, FITA Range, is the location of USA's one and only FITA World Ranking Tournament for 2009.  The AZ Cup is an open tournament, all are welcome.  This is a great opportunity for JOADs who can shoot the adult distances to compete side by side with World Champions, Olympians and archers from around the world.  The tournament includes a qualifying round (4 distance FITA round), Open and National Team rounds as well as Individual Elimination rounds for the championship.  For more information and to register, visit www.arizonacup.com
